Writing An eBook - The How To Guide

By admin | May 8, 2008

Whenever you’re listening to one of the big names in internet marketing you hear the same speech over and over again when it comes to viral marketing. The number one advice is, write an eBook and give it away for free.

You might ask "What is viral marketing and why should I give something away for free after I spend weeks to create it?". On another note you probably don’t even know how to write an eBook and what to talk about.

First things first. Viral marketing is exactly what the name implies. You create a marketing effort that spreads like a virus. No, not the kind of virus you fear on your computer.
Here’s an example. You are running a home business and you’re getting pretty good in attracting new customers, but you’re working more and more hours to generate this traffic to your business. Well, there are only 24 hours in a day and there’s only so much you can do. No you have 2 options.
Option 1: Hire an employee to help you with your workload or motivate somebody else to promote your product. I don’t know about you, but the thought alone having employees gives me the creeps. If you ever had to deal with employees you know what I’m talking about.
That leaves us with option 2; motivate somebody else to do the work for us.

How do you do this? Easy, the number one question you have to address is "What’s in it for me?". If you can give this person something in return for their work you’re off to a good start. Now here’s when the eBook thing comes into the picture. eBooks and/or software are the perfect products to sell or give away from a automated web site. No packing and shipping involved and the system takes care of the transaction without you doing anything. Don’t you love this? I sure do! What’s in it for them? By giving away your eBook you break the barrier for somebody else to actually look at your product. Second, you give this person the right to distribute and reprint your eBook. This means that you give the person the right to give it to another person for consumption and the right to reprint as well. This will repeat itself over and over again. That’s viral marketing in a nutshell. Now there’s the problem to create an eBook to begin with. This seems harder than it is.

First you need a topic. What are your hobbies? Are you married for a very long time? How did you do this? Are you good with home improvements? Did you successful deal with the government? And so forth…

Now you take one topic and think about what you did to make it successful or just something you enjoyed. This is the key. People want to feel better about themselves. You give them the roadmap on how to do something that they will enjoy at then end or something they can be proud of. Once you have a topic to write about, it’s downhill from there.

Focus on your topic, outline the eBook first. Start very high level. What’s the problem? What are the obstacles to overcome? What are the goals you want to achieve with this? How did you do it? What are the lessons learned? What are you doing next You see having these high level outlines in place will help you to drill down in each one of them. It might be a little bit strange in the beginning, but after a while you get used to it and the words just flow out of your hands. Armed with this knowledge you should be on your way to write your first eBook. In my forum I created a folder for first time writers to advertise their eBooks.

How “Thinking Outside The Box” Explodes Your Sales!

By admin | May 8, 2008

When it comes to marketing, it’s said that if you want to grow your business, you need to think "outside the box". But as you know, "thinking outside the box" isn’t always easy.

Here’s an example of what I mean. See if you can figure out the best thing to do in this situation.

You’re single and successful, busily driving home from work one Friday evening, alone in your car on a somewhat spooky and stormy night. As you slowly pass by a bus stop, you notice three people waiting for the bus:
One, an old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
Two, an old and dear friend of yours who once saved your life.
And three, the perfect man (or) woman of your dreams.

So here’s your dilemma: Which one of these three people one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing you can only have one passenger in your car. THINK before you answer. You could pick up the old lady, because she’s about to keel over, and you’d be saving her life. Or, you could give your friend a lift, because you feel indebted to him forever. On the other hand, you may never ever be able to find your perfect dream lover again if you pass this person up — and Lord knows nothing would be worse than a lifetime of regret — especially over this decision. What would you do? Think this through before I give you the "correct" answer.

Ready? O.K., here it is: You toss your car keys to your friend who once saved your life, and tell him to take the old lady to the hospital, while you stay behind hanging out at the bus stop with the woman (or man) of your dreams. Most people would never have answered the question this way, because it’s an "Outside The Box" kind of an answer. The biggest problem most entrepreneurs have, is their inability to look inside their own world, and come up with a similar "Outside The Box" kind of solution, to their own marketing problems. Yet, outside your box is where all the critical answers to your marketing problems are. Right? So start thinking TOTALLY Outside The Box, when it comes to your marketing. Now go sell something.

How To Master Internet Marketing

By admin | May 6, 2008

What is the secret of being the best at Internet Marketing? First, and foremost, it’s all about basics. What does that mean? Think about the difference between the top earning pro baseball player and one that’s making just a normal "salary." Do they actually DO anything that’s different from each other. They both hit. They throw. They catch. Occasionally, they run. The same basic things. Yet, one does it better and makes a heck of a lot more money because of it. Mastery of Internet Marketing is about being the best at the basics.

First, what is the point of Internet Marketing? You’re trying to generate leads. That’s it. Leads. On the Internet today, there really are two basic ways of finding leads or having them find you. Either provide direct advertising, such as with PPC Google Ads, or PPC ads from other providers, or you can provide content on the Internet and let the Search Engines put you in their indexes so people searching for what you have can find you.

So there you go. What are the basics?

 - Find or

- Get Found

So let’s say you have an Affiliate Internet Marketing Program. You can generate leads by creating ads to announce that you have an "Affiliate Internet Marketing Program." With the PayPer Click (PPC) ad systems out there, you can advertise directly to people looking for what you have to provide and only pay for the people that click on your ad.

Or, you can write articles about affiliate Internet Marketing Programs and let the Search Engines index those pages so people searching for you can find you.

What’s the advantage of one over the other? With PPC, you can use money to get top ranking for your ads. With content it’s free but you have to be more patient. Many top Internet Marketers will use PPC to start traffic to their site and then turn it off when traffic from search engine results generates enough leads on its own.

Probably the best source of information on Internet Marketing comes from the Traffic Secrets program from John Reese. I received a bunch of DVDs, CD-ROMS, workbooks and a set of "blueprints" that I use for reference on a daily basis. I’ve watched the DVDs serveral times and used the information to consult others and have watched myself and my clients build a huge business through Internet Marketing. It’s not a cheap program, but it was worth every penny and I wouldn’t have paid double for it and still been happy.

Maybe you’re interested in Internet Marketing for a Real Estate Agent. How do you get started? First you need to create a website. Better yet, have on created for you. Do you know how to do a website yourself? So what? Are you in the business of creating websites or are you a Real Estate Agent? Go to www.elance.com and post a job for someone to create a simple, content-based website for you. Leave off the animations, the movies, the music playing in the background. Create a site with content. Maybe you’re a Real Estate Agent in Northern Virgina. Create some pages that tell people what it’s like in that area. Help people become an informed consumer. While they’re reading your content, they can see that you are a Real Estate Agent and can offer them a service when they’re ready.

Now here’s the big secret…when you are building websites for Internet Marketing, lots and lots of people are going to visit your site…and not all of them are going to contact you as a lead. Not ever. Got it?

Are you not good at writing content for your website? Hire a writer. There are plenty on elance as well. By the way, you’re not going for the Pulitzer. Just create meaningful content for your intended audience and leave the two dollars words at home.

Once you have a website, go to Google, FindWhat, SearchFeed and other PPC Search Engine Internet Marketing services and create classified ads for your site. Read up a bit before you do. There are some great resources on the Intenet for writing great ads. A few of my favorites are listed on my site. Your ad should have a great title. The title is arguably the most important part of an ad. If you’re using Google, you’re very limited in the number of characters you can use so say what you mean. When you use the other PPC services, they tend to give you more space to write. That’s ok. Keep it simple and to the point.

Here’s the next big tip. On the Internet, you are doing what is called "direct marketing." Direct to whom? Direct to the person interested in what you have to offer. Speak to them. The Internet is all about direct advertising. Putting a hand puppet on a 30-second TV commercial does not generate the kind of interest that you will generate by speaking directly to the person who is typing phrases realing to YOU in the search engine.

As you start to build traffic through PPC, you should also start to get found through the Search Engines. Watch your logs and see how people are finding you. When your search engine traffic is about equal to your PPC traffic, you may want to consider slowing down your PPC spending. The more you can do for free, the more profit you get to keep. Again the Traffic Secrets program is really amazing in the way it breaks this down into a specific plan you can apply again and again.

Entire articles can be, and have been, written on individual subjects mentioned in this article. My hope is that you have enough to get started thinking in the right frame of mind. The Internet is about content. There is nothing unethical about marketing on the Internet. Provide value for the type of people you want as a lead and let them find you.

Until next time.

How to market when the going gets tough

By admin | May 5, 2008

Marketing in Tough Times When the economy is slow, companies often do the opposite of what’s best for their business. Down times are when you need to escalate your marketing efforts, not reduce them. In fact, it’s the most critical time to make a plan to get in front of prospects as well as re-connect with current clients. If you aren’t, your competition will be more than happy to take care of your prospects and clients for you.

Whether marketing in a print medium, radio, television or just networking, you have a limited amount of time to get your message across. You want to initiate interest and be memorable when the contact has ended. Let’s take a look at what it takes to win with print advertising.

Money-making Headlines Winning headlines accomplish many things. They first attract your prospect’s attention; communicate a strong benefit; and appeal to the self-interest of the reader. You know you have a healthy headline if it answers the reader’s question, "What’s in it for me"? A good headline reflects that intimate understanding of your target audience.

Tests show that a good headline can be as much as 17 times more effective than a mediocre headline even when the exact same body copy is used. Headlines are a powerful tool, and that’s reason enough to get it right the first time. Successful marketers tell us to spend 70 percent of your time coming up with the headline in 17 words or less.

On the average, five times as many people read the headlines as read the body copy. It follows that, unless your headline sells your product, you wasted 90 percent of your money.David Ogilvy, Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide Hot Button Benefits Use strong verbs in your copy to communicate your most valuable asset your benefits. Don’t confuse benefits with features; one is the sizzle, the other is the steak. Sizzle always sells more. For example, a masonry business benefit is the security one feels when buying a durable, long-lasting solution. Bricks and blocks, and first-class assembly, are the features.

Benefits are always from the buyer’s point of view; features are the facts about your products, which help build credibility. Both are necessary in your advertising, but benefits are what close the sale because people buy based on emotions, and then justify their decision with logic. Good headlines stir emotions and motivate response.

Here are 10 of the most powerful words used in successful headlines today:

Secrets of
Amazing
Breakthrough
The Truth
Free
Sale
How to
Discover
New
Facts You

Example headlines using these keywords:
Little Known Secrets of How Brick Buildings
Withstand Earthquakes
10 Reasons New Contractors Need Highly Skilled Craftsmen
The Truth about Building Safe Schools from Stonework
Facts You might not Know about the Legal Issues of Ergonomics
Discover How Breakthrough Scheduling Provides Improved Quality

Compelling Body No one likes to be sold or manipulated - they want to be communicated with and shown. If you have a product or service they want, your copy can’t be considered too extensive as long as you keep them engaged. And that’s the trick you need to know intimately what your target market wants. Always put yourself in the reader’s shoes when analyzing your promotion.

The body of your message is where you articulate your unique selling position. How do you differentiate your construction company from every other? Tell them how your solution solves the void in your marketplace (a void that they have as well). Your body copy should grow from what specific action you want your recipient to take. Make them an offer they can’t refuse; for example, offer to educate them (free of charge) about your business. If you want them to pick up the phone and call your company for a quote or consultation, then give them a good reason to do so. Write each line so compelling that readers can’t wait to get to the next one. Always test messages, track campaigns, and make changes as you go to improve those results.

Practical tips for telling your story include: always use fonts that are easy to read, such as Times New Roman, Arial and Verdana. Make it conversational instead of cute; you want to create rapport with your reader. Make use of subheads that break up large blocks of text and create critical white space. Use photographs that support your copy or graphics of past successful projects with dynamic captions. Include as many testimonials as you can; you can’t have too many testimonials.

Call Them to Act If you don’t ask for the order, the answer is always "no." Your call to action is a beginning step to converting a prospect into a buyer. The best kind of advertising makes them an offer they find irresistible. Tell them exactly what actions or steps to take for them to either call, fax, e-mail or write your company, as well as visit your website for more information.

If you send them to your website, make sure you have a two-step process in place that includes a second strong call to action so you don’t lose them at that point. You could use case studies that depict your quality craftsmanship and on-time scheduling. Emphasize customer service and, while you have them, don’t forget the opportunity to up-sell. What additional services might you offer that they could benefit from? You’ll be amazed at what needs you can unearth just by asking.

General Personal Finance Advice

By admin | May 4, 2008

Personal finance is an individual’s financial status. It’s about how much money you have, and how much you need. It is about managing your money - today and for tomorrow. Money is the currency on which all world economies function. Income - expenditure -bills- debts - savings: These are a fact of life.

A constant for most is the endeavor to tip the scales in favor of savings. Successful financial management includes planning and keeping records of income and expenditure, budgeting, balancing your check book, insurance and investments - whether in real estate, the share market, funds or any of the other available mechanisms. You cannot overlook the necessity of planning your savings, your tax savings and your retirement.

A very interesting way to look at Asset and Liability is in the following terms: An Asset is anything which brings in money or does not change the status of your money in the bank. A liability is anything which causes money to flow out - whether under the pretext of taxes, interest or fees.

Budgeting - This ensures that you are financially healthy and flourishing. It is a good idea to create and use a budget worksheet which allows you to make a detailed expenditure plan and helps you discover any shortage or unplanned expenditures.

Some useful tips in planning your finances:
- Handle your own money. If you choose a financial consultant, ensure you understand how your money is being managed.
- Save a huge amount in interest by opting for a shorter tenure of loan term - home/ car/ personal.
- Debt: Should ideally not be indulged in, or repaid at the earliest.
- Savings: it is easier to save more if you start early - you can put aside small sums and over the years watch it accumulate and earn interest for you.
- Retirement planning: don’t wait till you are 40 to start. Begin today - and ensure a comfortable lifestyle in your old age. Avoid cashing out your PF or breaking your Funds. - It’s a good idea to do an Annual/ Quarterly financial health check up.
